Contemporary replicas of the pottery spaniel dogs habitually placed on mantelpieces in 19^th century homes, our lavender Staffordshire dog figurine pays homage to the classic earthenware figure, but this time with a colorful twist!  Because they were usually placed on top of the mantelpiece to stand guard in the home, these popular decorative figures are often referred to as hearth spaniels or fireplace dogs.  Though the figures were produced in a variety of dog breeds, including the greyhound, the spaniel style was especially popular due to royalty’s favoring of the King Charles Spaniel breed.  While they were traditionally used in matching pairs, we sell them individually to encourage you to mix and match!  Made of ceramic.  Approximately 7″ long x 7″ high.  Sold individually.
