Happy June Pride Guys and Dolls- It’s Time for Tony!

Happy June Pride Guys and Dolls.  As we write this post, we’re proud as a peacock to say, “It’s almost time for Tony!”

No, not that Tony, though he is no stranger to The Great White Way.  He is no stranger to our home base of Philadelphia either, having co-instructed a 10th Grade English class at Northeast High School for the A&E reality series, Teach: Tony Danza during the 2009 – 2010 school year.

Of course, the Tony we’re actually touting is Broadway’s biggest honor!  You know it as a star-studded, show tunes-laden evening that is conveniently positioned during Pride Month!  With the 70th annual awards show coming up on June 12 @ 8PM, 7PM Central on CBS  (you’re welcome), we just couldn’t wait to start celebrating.  So, strap on your Kinky Boots and sing along with us!

While the uber dashing Neil Patrick Harris may not be hosting this year’s Tony Awards, one of his more memorable roles was never an actual play- it was one of our PHavorite creations by the masters of intelligent humor over at Funny or Die.  Long before the hateful House Bill 2 passed in North Carolina, Proposition 8 in of all places, California, was similarly troubling to our fair-minded PHriends and PHAG PHamily.  But, as they say, “Every cloud has a silver lining,” and this sparkling little gem is one of the most PHabulous protest anthems we’ve ever seen (or heard).  Do yourself a favor and take 3 minutes to remember… Prop 8 The Musical!

Yeah, we love that NPH cameo, too, but James Corden seems to be well on his way to making the role of Tony host his own.  This video popped up in our Facebook feed this week at PHAG, and it has played in a continuous loop ever since for two key reasons:

1. HAMILTON. OMG YOU GUYS, HAMILTON!

2. The stunning realization that this is the classiest clown car ever assembled.

Of course all of us are standing with our brothers and sisters fighting the good fight against the Bathroom Bill in North Carolina – and so is the Broadway cast of Kinky Boots. We couldn’t close this post without sharing them dropping truth bombs about bathroom habits!  The biggest bonus- appearances by show creators, Harvey Fierstein (a.k.a. Edna Turnblad) and the incomparable Cyndi Lauper.  Take a Peek…

June 12th happens to be PRIDE day here in the City of Brotherly Love, and we’ll be capping off our celebration by watching and singing the night away- we hope you will, too!
