On Memorial Day, we recount the sacrifices of our fallen and celebrate their service with a sense of pride and patriotism.  Whether to honor the memory of a lost friend or family member, or just to commemorate the freedom we enjoy as a result of the sacrifices of so many, the spirit of this holiday often inspires us to showcase patriotism in our lives (and our homes) in a more tangible way.  This celebratory holiday weekend signifies the end of May, but it’s also the unofficial start of summer, and we’re here to kick it off with some aMAYzing displays of truly inspired patriotic design!

From contemporary to traditional, whether it’s a living room or a bedroom, you can create patriotic inspired designs to suit any taste and any space!  Of course, the easiest way to bring a touch of patriotism to your home is to add the American flag to your décor.

But remember, design doesn’t have to be so literal.  You can easily achieve an amazingly chic room design in your home using only a patriotic inspired color palette, with not a flag in sight!   

If your heart is simply set on patriotic art, you can acquire it in a broad range of shapes and sizes.  From purchasing ready-to-hang flag art printed on board or canvas, to investing in a wall mural decal, art is a smart investment that can be used year after year!  Be bold, be brave, hang it in doors or out- the freedom to create is what it’s all about!

     

Marquee signs are all the rage this year!  Somehow, any art that lights up just screams Americana, doesn’t it?  You know what else screams Americana- baseball.  When art and baseball intersect, what better subject to use than the American flag!  Just imagine this creation all lit up…

 

For those of you looking for inspired ideas to proclaim your patriotism on the outside, not just the in- we give you a patriotic garden!  During the Gilded Age, the old town of York Harbor, Maine served as a vacation colony for wealthy families from our home base of Philadelphia all the way to Boston.  They “summered” there in 20-room shingle “cottages,” most of which still stand today.  We found this amazing interpretation of the American flag there- long may she wave!
